Fiona is the CEO of Financial Counselling Australia, the peak body for financial counsellors in Australia. Financial counsellors work in community organisations and provide advice and advocacy to people experiencing financial stress. It is relatively common for financial counsellors to assist clients where family violence and economic abuse are factors.

Fiona first became involved with financial counselling in 1990 when she worked as a voluntary financial counsellor at Caxton Legal Centre in Brisbane and helped set up the Financial Counsellors Association of Queensland.  She’s been active in consumer advocacy since that time, mainly in financial services and primarily on a volunteer basis.

Fiona is currently a member of the ACCC’s Consumer Consultative Committee, ASIC’s External Advisory Panel, the Australian Government Financial Literacy Board and is on the board of consumer advocacy group Choice and Financial Literacy Australia. She was awarded an AM in the 2017 Queens Birthday Honours list for services to social welfare and financial counselling. Fiona holds a B.A., LL.B and M.B.A.
